The heart of our volunteer service as amateur (ham) radio operators is being involved in emergency communications during disasters when other means are unavailable.

We interface with the National Weather Service - Brownsville to relay critical information regarding events on the ground in real time during major weather events. Anyone can train to be a Skywarn Spotter, however during disasters when there are limited communications, ham radio operators pick up the mantle. Here is a link to our local NWS office.
